RIGHTEOUSNESS

What do you understand by righteousness?

Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Man could not attain to God standard of righteousness, Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

There is a Difference between righteousness and holiness to know the full meaning the first time it was used was in exodus Exodus 3:5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. Who can explain this?

Man or object can be ‘holy’, because anything set apart for the use of God is declared holy. 1 Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; I can declare any instrument dedicated for the worship of God holy.

Man can attain holiness, but not righteousness. Righteousness is without sin and standing blameless before the most high God. This is not obtainable, so what happens?

Matthew 22:8-13 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. No one is qualified to be in God’s presence so we take his offered solution; come through, his son Jesus. The man in the above passage was not putting on the wedding garment. We must put on Jesus, our righteousness, otherwise the righteouness of God will consume us.

Righteousness is a gift see Romans 5:17, For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

see you in church!
